  • Harris English sank a 12-foot eagle putt on the 17th hole and it turned out to be the decisive shot of the 2016 Franklin Templeton Shootout. The putt gave English and his partner Matt Kuchar a one-stroke margin which would lead to their second title in the event in the last four years. They also won in 2013. English’s eagle came just moments after Jerry Kelly had given he and teammate Steve Stricker the lead with a birdie putt. The teams were tied several times during the round, including at 26-under-par following birdies by both teams at No. 14. However, English answered Kelly’s birdie with the eagle which would seal an exciting victory for the pair..
  • The victory by Harris English and Matt Kuchar matched their 2013 effort and they were also second the previous two years. In the last four years, the pair is a combined 121-under-par in this tournament..
  • The day’s low round was turned in by the team of Charley Hoffman and Billy Horschel, who posted an 11-under-par 61. Horschel’s birdie at No. 18 gave the duo a share of the lead at 26-under-par 190. It was the second consecutive year each player had turned in a nice effort in the tournament. Hoffman was third a year ago with Daniel Berger, while Horschel and teammate Hunter Mahan were fourth..
  • Kenny Perry and his partner Sean O’Hair finished T5. It marked the 10th time Perry had finished fifth or better in this event, a new record. He also earned $91,666 which put him over the $2 million mark in career earnings in this event ($2,085,624), also a record..
  • The team of Bryson DeChambeau and Lexi Thompson finished T11 in their first appearance in the event..
  • The best showing by a team making their first appearance in the event was turned in by Kevin Chappell and Kevin Kisner. They finished fourth overall.
