Mike Weir Now in the Field
NAPLES, Fla. (December 1, 2016) – Tournament officials announced today that Davis Love III has withdrawn from the 28th annual Franklin Templeton Shootout scheduled for December 5-10, 2016 at the Tiburón Golf Club at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort, Naples.
“Unfortunately, I am still feeling the effects of a nagging hip issue and will have to withdraw from this year’s Franklin Templeton Shootout, “said Love. “I always enjoy competing and spending time with friends during this event. Hopefully, I can play next year and try to add to the 1992 win I had with Tom Kite.”
Love was scheduled to play with Gary Woodland in the 12-team competition. Woodland will now compete with Mike Weir, the 2003 Masters champion and eight-time winner on the PGA TOUR. Weir is a five-time member of the International team in the Presidents Cup matches and has played in six World Cup team competitions. Weir was the first alternate via the PGA TOUR’s career money list category.
Throughout its history, the Franklin Templeton Shootout has included many of golf’s greatest players. As a premier PGA TOUR post-season event, the Shootout will once again feature a different format during each competitive round --- Scramble (Thursday), Modified Alternate Shot (Friday) and Better Ball (Saturday). This year, Golf Channel will televise Thursday and Friday live from 2 - 5PM ET and FOX will broadcast Saturday’s final round which will be live from 1 - 5 PM ET.
